Gildas Vivier, Jacques Goba, Mikaël Simonne et Frédéric Lechevallier ont fondé cette plateforme de blogs dédiés au football près de Caen. Le site est calqué sur Myspace et a été lancé en 2008 par la société Sportbaz. Les blogs sont alimentés par des relais locaux, fans de clubs. « On fait un journal contributif, validé par l'équipe », résume Gildas Vivier. Mais la pompe avait du mal à s'amorcer : seules quelques centaines de membres fréquentaient l'espace. Loin des 300 000 visiteurs uniques attendus à la fin 2008. Pour développer le trafic, Sportbarz a lancé un concours de supporters entre clubs sur le réseau Facebook. « On est passé d'un millier à 90 000 membres, assure Gildas Vivier. Depuis la mi-décembre, on compte 100 000 visiteurs uniques par mois. » Le système pourrait évoluer vers une notation des joueurs qui bénéficieraient, à terme, d'un indice Facebook.

4thegame racheté par Sportech
Fast Web Media, based in Manchester, has sold 4thegame.com, a football community site, to Liverpool-based Sportech for £600,000.
Sportech said it would use the site to promote the online presence of New Football Pools, the new name for its combined Littlewoods and Vernons business.
Content from 4thegame, which has 700,000 unique users a month, will be used on footballpools.com, Sportech’s online pools site.
Sportech chief executive Ian Penrose said: “This acquisition is an important element of our strategy to increase the online visibility of The New Football Pools and engage with football fans from around the world.”
Fast Web Media said it would continue to work with Sportech to expand 4thegame and chief executive Michael Flynn said Sportech was committed to developing the site.
Livejournal launches Championat.tv
LiveJournal owner Sup is launching a sports TV portal, Championat.tv, alongside its existing sports portal of the same name. Sup expects 500,000 monthly uniques by year’s end. It’s all of the back of recent Russian footballing success, with Zenit St Petersburg winning the Uefa Cup, Russia did well in Euro 2008 and the Champion’s League final was hosted in the country.
Setanta selects Perform Sales to manage online ads
Setanta Media has chosen Perform Sales, a subsidiary of Perform, to represent its online display advertising. This two-year deal sees Perform Sales continue to augment its network of sports websites. Perform Sales now has a sports and entertainment advertising network of over 45 websites reaching 14 million unique users per month.
Setanta Sports’ websites recorded 1.7m unique visitors in July and has added more than 1m unique users in recent months, boosted by its comprehensive range of broadcast rights including Barclays Premier League, FA Cup, England’s away World Cup 2010 qualifiers and home internationals and the Cyldesdale Bank Premier League from Scotland. Working with Perform Sales means Setanta will be represented as a major digital media advertising platform allowing the broadcaster to fully leverage its online inventory as it continues to expand.
Stephen Michael, Director of New Media at Setanta commented: “Our website is an incredibly important commercial vehicle for us, so choosing the right partner to manage our display advertising was a crucial decision. Perform Sales has the skill and expertise to drive the site forward and deliver sustained and impressive results in a very competitive market.”
On top of this deal, Perform Sales has also recently added a number of other websites to its football network bringing an additional 3 million unique users per month generating over 26 million page impressions. Since the start of 2008, the Perform Sales display network (sport and entertainment) has doubled in size.

World Metrix audience measurement service. The study revealed that the majority of
traffic to the Web sites of the “Big Four” Premiership clubs – Manchester,
Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea – now originates from outside of the U.K.
Premiership Champions Manchester United Also Reign Online in U.K.
Premierleague.com, the official site of the FA Barclays Premier League, attracted an
average of 1.2 million U.K. visitors per month during the 2007/08 season (August
2007 – May 2008). The website of Premiership Champions Manchester United,
Manutd.com, ranked as the most popular club site with an average of 912,000 visitors
per month. Liverpoolfc.tv ranked second with 887,000 visitors, followed by
Arsenal.com (718,000 visitors), and Chelseafc.com (402,000 visitors). Asia-Pacific Region Provides Fruitful Fan base for “Big Four” Clubs
Premierleague.com attracted 55 percent of its total audience from outside the U.K.,
demonstrating the broad global interest in the league. With the exception of
Liverpoolfc.tv, all of the “Big Four” club sites drew the majority of their visitors
from outside the U.K., with Manutd.com generating the largest share of its audience
from abroad (64 percent).

Trinity rolls out football blogs in the UK
Trinity Mirror (LSE: TNI) intends to launch a UK-wide network of soccer blogs, only tangentially related to its core regional newspaper sites.
Quietly, the publisher debuted Liverpool Banter and Everton Banter a couple of weeks ago - two blogs penned by Liverpool Daily Post and Echo soccer writers but distinctly designed, hosted separately on a Movable Type platform and with considerable fan input.
Trinity regional director Neil Benson told paidContent:UK of plans to roll out similar sites nationwide at the World Editors Forum in Gothenburg, likely starting with Birmingham City and Newcastle (United is Benson’s team) and possibly including all Premiership and Championship clubs. “We’d be stupid not to,” he said. The publisher wants to ally the sites with its newspapers only “in a very discreet way”.
It may be discreet, but there’s potential here for considerable clout. Trinity’s Sport Media unit already produces the Mersey clubs’ match programmes and official magazines. The Rippleffect web design house it recently acquired produces sites for many soccer sides including Liverpoolfc.tv. “There’s quite a big synergy”, Benson said.
UEAF video web services
UEFA has launched an online video service for the 2008 European Football Championship which starts this Saturday, reports Brand Republic. The service will include free and paid for content and is being packaged in three ways—through a free magazine show available twice a day, a limited “Matchpack” costing 1.99 euros, and a full access pass for the entire tournament priced at 19.99 euros.

Fast Web Media, the operator of a number of sports websites including 4thegame.com has bought football chat room website www.footballforums.net .
Footballforums claims 26,000 regular users a month. Its previous parent, Fanbanta went into administration. The consideration has not been disclosed.
Fast Web Media, based in Manchester, is a subsidiary of Total Sports Online, a Norwegian company which has recently delisted from the Oslo exchange.
Total Sports bought Fast Web Media in 1998. The company currently employs over 30 staff in Manchester.
In addition to owning and managing sports websites, Fast Web also offers digital marketing services to companies in the UK and overseas.
4thegame.com claims to be one of the longest established and most popular football websites in the world with over one million unique visitors a month. Fast Web launched the site twelve years ago.
Michael Flynn, CEO of Fast Web Media, said: “We are delighted with the acquisition.
